You’re Dead to Me!

nope, not interested, forget it, dead to me

If a drug dealer knocked on your door this afternoon and offered to sell you a pound of cocaine at 75% off because he was getting out of the business, would you be tempted to buy? Probably not. You could say something like this, “No thanks, I’m dead to cocaine.”

But what if a drunk driver ran into your car, through your front yard, and took out some bushes? What would your reaction be? While anger is an appropriate response, what else might come out of your mouth, and what else might be in your heart? …

Jesus is always the answer, but let me explain

Squirrel, Jesus, Maturity, Life-lessons
Photo by Daniel Olaleye on Unsplash

One day in Sunday School, the teacher asked her 1st-grade class if anyone could guess what she was describing. She said it is a small animal with a fuzzy tail.

No one responded.

She said you could find them in your back yard every day.

Still, no one responded.

She said they chase one another up and down the trees.

No response.

She was getting a little frustrated that no one was responding. So finally, she said they collect nuts and store them in the ground for the winter.

One little boy raised his hand and said, “I know the…

World Peace, Peace, Jesus offers peace
Photo by Humphrey Muleba on Unsplash

My Enneagram number is 9, so I long for and try to maintain peace in every facet of my life. I avoid conflict at all costs.

Please don’t ask me where I want to eat; the answer is always where everyone else will be happy. My comfortable, safe place is when there is no conflict, and all is at peace.

By the way, if you don’t know what the Enneagram is, you should check it out. Ian Morgan Cron’s Typology podcast is beneficial, and there are countless books on it as well. His is called “The Road Back To You.”…

Please do not get this question wrong

Billy was a chemist’s son
Billy is no more
What he thought was H2O was H2SO4
(Anonymous)

Poor Billy thought he was drinking water when he was drinking sulfuric acid. No doubt someone designed this pneumonic device to help those in chemistry remember the periodic tables.

In the movie, Madagascar, there was a scene where Melman couldn’t tell which zebra was Marty. Clearly, Marty was shocked and hurt.

Could you identify Who Jesus is if given a test? …

He has blessed us more than we deserve

Tornado
Photo by Romain Paget on Unsplash

On September 1st, a tornado ripped through Mullica Hill, N.J., just a few short miles up the road from where I live.

Little did we know at the time that our daughter traveled across the path of the tornado just a few minutes before it hit. Sadly, it destroyed several homes, along with a dairy farm that lost most of its cattle.

Fortunately, this type of devastation is rare in our neck of the woods.

I am so thankful for God’s protection for the many lives spared. It was terrible but could have been much worse. In times like these…

I must not forget where I have placed my faith

Key fob on a black background. Don’t forget where you placed your faith. In Christ Alone!

Losing your car keys is not only frustrating; it can be costly. It didn’t use to be that way because to cut a new car key was only a few dollars. Today’s cars need a specially designed FOB key that costs about $200 and even more to program it. Recently, I have done a bang-up job of misplacing mine; once, in a locked car with no other key. An embarrassing call to AAA fixed that problem.

When was the last time you forgot something vital, and it caused you some serious issues? You wondered how you could have overlooked something…

Don’t worry: The Supervisor has never made a mistake

Photo by John Kakuk on Unsplash

It’s not supposed to be this way! Life often is filled with trials and difficulties that seem unbearable.

No one escapes this world without their share of hardships, problems, or tragedy. Even when we try to live a decent, honorable life before God, we are not immune to chaos.

The Apostle Paul knew this truth in the first century and encouraged a group of believers in the town of Philippi. God has preserved those words for us, and hopefully, you will be encouraged as well.

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue…

He is so much more than that

God is not a Cosmic Genie
Photo by Cesira Alvarado on Unsplash

Wouldn’t you love to have a magical Genie at your disposal? Someone who could grant you three wishes? Will Smith did a fantastic job playing the Genie in Aladdin in 2019. One of the many great quotes from him was:

“Here’s the thing about wishes, the more you have, the more you want.” — The Genie in Aladdin

That is pretty profound which is why Genies usually limit their wishes to three. So if you only had three wishes, for what would you wish? But let me remind you of another quote from the Genie:

“I usually don’t have to…

Psalm 119

Put your heart into it

A man running, Plantar fasciitis, spiritual exercise, spiritual discipline
Photo by Jenny Hill on Unsplash

Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition that I have endured off and on for years. I know the drill when it shows up — Stretching, Icing, Resting, and Advil. Losing weight would probably help too. I am in the midst of another flare-up, and when I do the exercise regimen, it helps. When I put my heart into it, there is a tremendous benefit.

Along the same lines, there are times when we go through difficulties and we need to put in some extra spiritual exercises or disciplines. Psalm 119:161–168 reveals such a time in the writer’s life and he…

Psalm 119

And you don’t feel like making lemonade

Photo by Francesca Hotchin on Unsplash

Sure, we have all heard stories of people who have gone through a tragic series of events, trusting God, overcoming, and experiencing God’s grace. Now they are evangelists for trusting in the Lord when times get tough.

Of course, we all want that experience, but that’s just not our story. At least, not initially, but it probably wasn’t their primary response either.

Many times our knee-jerk reaction to a trial is to question whether or not God cares about us. Does He not see? Does He not understand how this is affecting our lives?

Look upon my suffering and rescue…
