Seeing the Invisible God
Don’t you wish that you could see God? Don’t you wish that you could hear His voice? In the Bible, we hear the stories of saints who were given the opportunity to see and hear God. Yet, those stories are few and far between. It was just not normal for God to make Himself visible because He is invisible (Colossians 1:15). Sure, God became a man and took on flesh and we beheld His glory, but God transcends all things. He is too big for us to fully comprehend; however, we can get a glimpse of Him and hear Him routinely. In Romans 1 we are told that He can be clearly seen and heard through Creation. As we inspect God’s glorious earth and all that is on it, we see God’s hand and we hear His voice. Certainly, this is just general revelation, and if we want to go deeper, we must get into the Scriptures where God gives us special revelation about Himself. God tells us that if we cannot see Him or hear Him, that is our fault. We are not looking or listening well. In fact, Paul tells us in Romans 1 that when someone does not listen to God, they will listen to other voices, and when they do, it will lead them to lives that are contrary to God and deserving of His judgment. Can we see an invisible God? Absolutely! It takes time, effort, and desire; however, as Francis Schaffer said, “He is there, and He is not silent.” Ask God to reveal Himself to you, and then open the Bible and listen for His voice.
