Who Put God in Charge?
Probably the dumbest title ever, I assume

Today would have been my Father’s 78th birthday, but He has been enjoying them in heaven for the past ten years. I still miss him and often find it hard to believe that He is gone.
Dad was a good man, a great husband, a wonderful father, and an example of what it meant to walk with Jesus. He was faithful, consistent, and a great servant in the church.
There are many evil people in this world who are in perfect health, and my Dad received an inoperable tumor. Why? Good question, but no answers. Oh, there are answers, but we don’t know what they are . . . yet.
“Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes.” (Psalm 115:3,NLT)
I still trust God’s wisdom
Just because I am a pastor, this does not mean that I, too, don’t struggle with the “Why” question. God seemingly makes no sense at times, but because He is God, He gets to determine what He will do, and no one gets to argue with Him. Many people have tried (me included), and trust me; it does not work.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9, NLT)
I still trust God’s goodness
God’s total control over the universe would be hard to take if He were not also intrinsically good. If He were just a Universal Dictator, I would struggle, but I submit because He is also a benevolent, kind, and good Father, Savior, and Friend.
My Dad is not suffering, but his family still misses him, and we still mourn our loss. You have loved ones that God has taken to heaven as well.
Can I encourage you to trust the goodness of God, the wisdom of God, and the plan of God? It may not ease the hurt, but it helps to keep your spiritual feet pointed in the right direction and your confidence in the right place.
One of Dad’s favorite songs toward the end of his life was “We’ll Understand It Better, By and By.” That we will, Dad.
Happy Birthday!
